Young people may be placed with Utopia Supported Housing for several different reasons, such as:
• Family and placement breakdown
• Young people who require support around emotional and behavioural support
• Young people who are homelessness
• Young asylum seekers
Our overall purpose is, therefore, to provide a safe, warm, nurturing and empowering environment for the young people to live in and to move on from, appropriately, and when they are ready to; while giving them the opportunity to develop their sense of self and make good choices for themselves and their futures.
Utopia Supported Housing offers planned placements of short, medium and long-term support for young people aged 16-18 in our supported accommodation provision and from Year 7 to 18 yrs in our children's home provision.
Our aim to help and support young people to develop independence and life skills to enable them to move-on into their own place of residence and lead a good quality of life. We can additionally offer support of an outreach service to facilitate the transition and provide continuity.
We do this by providing a structured, stimulating, caring and safe environment that is free from any prejudices and which offers young people the opportunity to be listened to; and express their wishes, needs and feelings, taking an active part in planning and implementing their own support packages.
Each service user will have a Pathway Plan, which covers the major dimensions of their lives:
· Health
· Education
· Family
· Social and emotional development
· Leisure and Culture
The Plan is developed with service users, family (where possible), professionals and significant others. It assesses and identifies the young person’s needs and how these will be met and addressed on a day-to-day basis.
All of our employees are dedicated to ensuring that our services users meet their full potential by offering continuous support and guidance, and our aim at Utopia is that when leaving our services young people have:
· Are able to build healthy relationships and recognise what is not good for them
· Have the relevant independent living skills to maintain a good quality of life
· Understand the importance of a healthy mind and body
· Understand the importance of healthy living and diet
· Manager their own healthcare needs
· Continue with further education or move into the world of employment
· Has a full understanding of their identity and who they are
